Hold the long tubular bulb with both hands and rotate it 90 degrees or 1 4 turn counterclockwise.
Change ceiling light to spotlight.

Unplug the bulb by twisting it 90 degrees.
Leave the power off and label this circuit breaker for future reference.
Place the wall switches for the fixtures in the off position.
This will align the prongs with slits in the sockets so you can remove the bulb.
Changing the light bulb and the trim can convert a recessed can light to a spotlight.
Turn off the wall switch for that light too.
Halogen lights may take twenty minutes 1 x research sourcestep 2 tear off a strip of duct tape.
The strip should be about 12 inches 30 cm long or half as long as your arm step 3 fold over each end of the duct tape.
Remove the light bulb cover and bulbs from the fixture.
Choose an eyeball trim for a larger spotlight or a pinhole trim for a more focused beam of light to highlight.
Unscrew the screws or nuts holding the fixture base to the ceiling box.
This shouldn t take more than five minutes for a normal light bulb.
Step 1 wait until the bulb is cool.
If the circuits in your panel aren t labeled turn on the existing light and turn off the power to each circuit until the light goes out.
Unscrew the light bulb.

Fold a short section of the duct tape over and stick it to itself.
If the fixture has a separate module that holds the light bulb attach the module to the wires in the fixture housing then push the module up into the canister.
Turn on the light at the wall switch and check the light socket with a circuit tester to make sure the power is off.
Install a light bulb.
Reach inside of the canister and firmly snap the ceiling clips downward so they lock onto the backside of the drywall.
Lower the fixture base and remove the electrical tape or wire nuts from the black hot wire white neutral wire and if present green ground wire.
Be sure to turn off the light switch before changing the bulb.
