Ceiling Fan Light Switch Pull Chain Not Working

Unscrew the screws where the light fixture attaches to the fan assembly. First shut off the power running to the fan. What should i do. But the pull chain i have for the light is not working.

You can do this from the circuit panel in your home. Once the power is shut off look at the base of the fan where the light kit is attached. The small switch where the pull chain attaches should now be visible. If your ceiling fan or the light on the fan doesn t work when the chain is pulled then the problem is most likely a broken fan pull chain switch.

You ll need to remove the light kit from the fan and take out the light switch inside. The first thing i would do in a situation like this is to consider replacing the pull chain light switch. Carefully reattach the wires from the switch to the light remembering to pair black to black and ground to ground. Locate the wire connections from the pull chain switch to the unit.

Pull chain switches for light fixtures and ceiling fans can become a problem over time due to internal worn out parts a broken pull chain and in some cases the pull chain switch contacts may just wear out and stop working. Replace the old switch with a new pull chain switch then place the end cap back onto the light fixture. The pull chain is working ok for the fan. The switch will also need to be replaced if the chain will not pull down or if it broke off inside the fan housing.
